Basel
There are at least three ways of spelling the name of the place I went to this weekend, but I’ve settled for the German version, which was most prominent during my stay.
This weekend was very relaxing.
Friday, Sarah & I travelled over to her parents house before taxi’ing across to the airport and catching a flight to the swiss town of Basel.
I’ve been to Basel before, but only the airport as Kusito then picked us up and took us to Bern, a beautiful town in the centre of the country. This was the first time I’d actually been into the town proper.
We found our hotel quickly, it turned out to be right next to the train station - The Hotel Victoria - a very nice 4* establishment - and made our way out into town.
We quickly found some square near the theatre which became a kinda focal point for the whole weekend - and had dinner.
A few beers later (including MR. Pickwicks, which I last visited in Geneva for some karaoke) and then home.
Saturday Sarah and I went off on our own and discovered lots of the town. We crossed the river and only stopped when our stomach’s started to rumble and we had lunch.
We waited rather a long time for lunch.
A very long time.
Afterwards we met up again with Sarah’s family, ventured back to the hotel.
Evening dinner was a fancy posh one in a tall building in the north of the town. Afterwards we went upstairs to a very red bar and stared out over the city. It later transpired that you can quite clearly see into the toilet (allbeit on a very high floor) from the tram stop just outside.
The tram is excellent in Basel. Very efficient, we could learn a lot about public transport from the Swiss.
Afterwards we discovered a few more bars.
Sunday Arrived and we ventured off to the zoo, which was good.
Afterwards we had some lunch on the fairly busy street with Mr. Pickwicks on it, and headed back to the airport for our flight.
All in all, very relaxing! A trip well spent.
