Mancunian Snowtastic!

It snowed this week, twice.

The first time was on wednesday, I noticed when putting the bins out around 1am.

It was great! because it had snowed so late it was completely untouched and the street looked pretty beautiful. Of course by the morning it was all slush again!

The second time was Friday afternoon, and for a few hours we had brill snow for making snowballs, which we did, of course. Unfortunately by the time we were on our way back from the Tiger Lounge (read on for that…) it had iced over with just a little powder on top, somewhat curtailing the snowball fight we had on our way to the pizza place - though we still seemed to manage it!

Anyway; the week!

Monday:
Can’t remember much about Monday! did I do something? See, this is why I should update my blog more regularly.

Tuesday:
See “Monday”

Wednesday:
Was supposed to be playing football, but it got called off at the last moment, irritatingly. I also was entered into a poker tournament for the SPO, but ended up final tabling at the blue square freeroll instead - My first final table! I came 7th\450 people which was very pleasing indeed.
Missed the Ceilidh as I’d already agreed to the footie & poker before realising it was on!

Thursday:
Another non-descript day!

Friday:
Right then, stuff actually happened on Friday, and even more surprisingly, I remember some of it!

I went into work late because I got drawn into watching the cricket on sky - which didn’t finish until 12pm, we’re doing alright (against India!)

When I got in Jon, Adrian & I went to the Jabez for lunch, and a few games of pool. I rather fortunately beat Adrian after he potted the white & black at the same time, and I deservedly beat Jon after he potted the black early.

I returned back to the office and did some work leaving around 6pm.

Got home, ate, watched my England beat the Danes, played a bit of poker and left around 850\900.

Arrived in Hardy’s well (it should have a much higher rating than it has on that site, heathens) to find Emma, Adrian, Dan, Adam, Mahinda, Alsion, Kate & Linden already enconsed in a corner. Rosy had literally arrived seconds before me (from work), beers ordered and conversation flowed.

I seem to remember Mahinda posting “Alsion is the best girlfriend in the world. FACT.” on his blog whilst we were there, but I have no idea why and I didn’t even know that phones can do that.

Anyway, before long our original “Satan’s Hollow” plan had morphed into a “Temple of Convenience” plan and we headed off curtesy of Emma’s car to the latter pub.

There we played Indian Poker (that’s what I’ve always called it, I’m not sure what it’s name is, but it’s a fairly simple drinking game involving placing a card on your head, then everyone pointing at who they think has the best card (you can’t see your own!) and if you get it wrong, you have to drink (edit: It is the correct name, though we played it without betting)), and drunk some fine fine beer. I was on the Zywiec and Adrian had the emminently drinkable, but extremely dangerous Duvel. Mahinda had some fruity effort that he claims was fruit free but clearly was not.

We moved on, perhaps around midnight, to sample the delights of the Tiger Lounge… an underground bar\club thing that considers itself “Kitsch” (it is) and probably “Hip” (whatever that means).

It’s the first time I’ve been there and I wasn’t overly impressed. It’s certainly no FAB Café. Next time we will definitely go to the Hollow, another venue I’m yet to sample the delights of. Jon & his housemate had joined us by this point.

Despite this I had a really good time and got pretty drunk.

We headed back via lots of snow packed squares and the inevitable snowball fight occurred, though it was made more difficult by the fact that most of the snow had iced by then, we still managed it.

A pizza was ordered and eaten and a taxi ride via all our houses ended the evening.

A fine time had by all.

Today is Saturday. So that must mean you’re now up to date!

tarra!

  1. Because I’m ace.

The rest of Friday sounds fun! Well done.

But now it is Sunday, so I am not up to date.

  2. Is that Rosy in the ’snowed’ picture?!

I usually like TigerLounge, but wasn’t all that impressed on Friday night. Maybe it’s ‘cos I wasn’t quite in the mood for it - I was more up for Fab or Satan’s that night.

TigerLounge is definitely better on a Saturday.

  3. Jon noticed that if you read my blog incorrectly then you get this:

“I’m yet to sample the delights of. Jon & his housemate”
